About the Summer Exchange Program

The purpose of this program is to allow students to study part-time abroad during the summer without being required to pay international student fees. This is the ideal program to add a new dimension to your degree, add an international experience to your resume and to live a cultural immersion in another country.

Determine your eligibility

In order to be eligible for the Summer Program, you must:

  • Be a full-time uOttawa student registered in a regular program at the time of application in one of the following faculties:
    • Arts
    • Engineering
    • Law (Common Law and Droit civil)
    • Science
    • Social Sciences
    • Health Science
    • Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or an international student with valid immigration documents
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of C+ (5).
    • All students must maintain this minimum average until their departure; otherwise their summer program abroad will be cancelled.
  • Have command of the official language of the host institution (proof of language proficiency required, see below).
  • Pay tuition and general fees for the entire mobility program period to the University of Ottawa before leaving for the host institution

Language Requirements

If your first language or your language of instruction at uOttawa is different from the language of study at the host institution, a proof of language proficiency will be required. You must have completed one course (minimum grade B) in the language of instruction of the university. The unofficial uOttawa transcript you will include in your application is sufficient proof. Please note that the host institution may require additional proof.  


The Telfer School of Management coordinates its own mobility programs. Students of this School interested in participating should call 613-562-5821 or visit the School, as deadlines for applications differ from those of the International Office.

CLIC: Canada Learning Initiative in China

The purpose of CLIC is to establish a Canada-wide study-abroad initiative that creates innovative and meaningful education opportunities in China for Canadian students. CLIC operates with a collaborative framework, allowing participating Canadian universities to coordinate and engage with Chinese partners effectively as a group.

CLIC is uniquely tailored to meet the needs of Canadian students making learning opportunities in China more accessible, through significant funding options and improved credit transfers.

Please note that students must register to the Additional French Conversation course in order to meet uOttawa's credit transfer requirements for the French Intensive Language Conversation course.

Course Offered:

At the International Summer Course, participants have the chance to learn German or to improve existing knowledge. There will be courses for beginners and for advanced students as well as courses dealing with specific terminology. Classes will be small (maximum of 15 participants), and there will be an assessment test first to ensure that the students' individual needs and expectations are taken into account. As excursions and other events of the supporting programme are part of the Summer Course, all participants are expected to attend. The program includes all courses and events or more specifically a choice of:

  • 12 German language courses (basic, intermediate and advanced level)
  • 60 hours of language classes
  • Seminars on German culture, literature and linguistics (4 hours per week)
  • Supporting programme including concerts, German culture excursions, international meetings and guided tours in various towns

New Dehli and Mumbai, India


Eligibility:

  • Students must be registered as regular, full-time University of Ottawa students.
  • Students must have a weighted cumulative grade point average of at least 5.0 when they apply and must maintain this average until their departure.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Be registered at that university in the academic year preceding participation in the program and be continuing in the same academic program in the academic year following participation in the summer program.

Scholarship:

Successful applicants will receive a total scholarship amount of $2,000 to help cover expenses during the Internship from the Ontario/India Program.

Please note that students participating in the Ontario/India Program are not eligible for the International Office's Mobility Scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be registered as regular, full-time University of Ottawa students.
  • Students must have a weighted cumulative grade point average of at least 5.0 (for law students, 4.5 for students enrolled in a Major in Arabic Language and Culture) when they apply and must maintain this average until their departure..
  • IMPORTANT: Priority will be given to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts with Major in Arabic Language and Culture. If scholarships are still available, we will consider applicants registered in the Minor in Arabic Language and Culture, and finally students enrolled in other programs.

Closed to:

  • Students whose mother tongue is Arabic

Scholarship:

Students selected to participate in the Iben Battuta program to learn Arabic will receive a scholarship from the Tunisian Government, which covers the registration fees and the accommodation fees, as well as an allocation of 100 Tunisian dinars for a maximum stay of 2 months in Tunisia. 

Please note that students participating in the Iben Battuta Scholarship to learn Arabic Program are not eligible for the International Office's Mobility Scholarship.
