University of Ottawa offers its help to Saudi students

The University of Ottawa is assisting Saudi students and medical residents affected by the decision of Saudi Arabia to suspend all training, scholarships and fellowships in Canada and to transfer all Saudi students to other countries.

Some 250 Saudi students and medical residents are currently enrolled at uOttawa, most of them in graduate programs in the faculties of Medicine, Engineering and Science.

The University recognizes that this is a stressful time for the students affected. The first priority is to ensure the wellbeing and success of our students and trainees, and we will work with those students who must comply with the Saudi measures.

As the situation continues to evolve, we will be working with other universities, as well as government officials.

Canada has a long history of welcoming Saudi students in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. Saudi master’s and PhD students have been important contributors to the research programs of universities across the country.

Students are invited to contact the International Office at uointl@uottawa.ca or 613-562-5847 if they have any questions.
